Play Your Role presented in a scientific meeting in Algarve University

Play Your Role – Gamification against hate speech was presented in “XIV Jornadas do CIAC” which took place in the University of Algarve, in Faro, on February 28th.

In this fourteenth edition, the “Jornadas do CIAC” were dedicated to communication of science, art, literacy and new media. This is an annual event which brings together multidisciplinary researchers, teachers and professors, working in the area of media, arts, communication, culture and digital humanities.

Susana Mendes da Silva, member of Algarve University team working on the project Play Your Role and PhD student in Media Digital Art, presented a paper sharing the guidelines of this project and some main conclusions of the actual stage: statistic analysis of the questionnaires applied in the Portuguese, Italian and Lithuanian schools aiming to understand how young people deal with online hate speech in videogames.

This presentation showed a general view of the project, an analysis of the state of the art and some previous conclusions on the statistical analysis of the data collected on the relationship of young people with hate speech in video games and online game communities.

The presentation of the project contributed to its dissemination and engaged the public building an important network, which is interested in following up the outputs of this European initiative.
